We were asked to create a dress "just like Princess Buttercup...you
know, the red one." We watched The Princess Bride several times in order to capture still shots of the
dress. It wasn't hard, we already lovedthe movie. (I actually had two dogs named Buttercup & Wesley!)
Wes drafted a pattern after we debated about
the design of the dress. We finally found screen shots that proved Wes right: unlike most medieval gowns, there is a
seam between the bodice and skirt. Next came the search for the correct shade of red linen.
The sleeves
are cartridge pleated by hand to the wrist bands and the skirt is pleated into the high waist. The dress back and
the sleeve bands both close using red lacing through grommets. Our customer was making her own belt, so we've
photographed the dress using one of our other medieval girtles.
Prices begin at $550 depending on fabric selected.
