Farthingales and hoopskirts have been helping women
support their skirts since the Renaissance.
We can make a hoopskirt to meet your individual needs. You may choose to
have your hoopskirt have a waistband, elastic, or drawstring closure. You may also decide whether to have a plain hemline
or to add a ruffle. You can add rows of ruffles to conceal the hoopwires or add an attached petticoat to the same waistband.
Quilted petticoats were used for several reasons. First, it gave ladies
a place to show off their skill at needlework. However, it also prevented the hoops from being as obvious...thus fewer
petticoats were needed over the hoopskirt. Lastly, quilted petticoats were much warmer on cold, windy days.
The cost of hoopskirts depends on the number of hoops needed, circumference
of finished skirt, and options (such as ruffles or fabric).
Prices begin at $50 for a child's farthingale (2 hoop) and $80 for
an adult farthingale (3 hoop). The 11 hoop Victorian Hoopskirt shown at left was $200.
